Position Description

Position Title: Companion Worker    

       Background / Qualifications

  • Back Current Canadian citizenship / Landed Immigrant status or current holder of a valid work permit
  • Ability to speak, read and write in English
  • Bilingualism in any other language is a strong asset
  • Previous related experience in private homes or institutions
  • Certificate / Course in managing Responsive Behaviours or, Gentle Persuasion Approach or, in Mental Health or, psycho-geriatric experience
  • Current CPR & First-aid Certificate

Key responsibilities

  • Supervising and monitoring client’s Responsive Behaviours, ensuring priority to safety interventions at all times
  • Keeping client in full view at all times
  • Escorting client as necessary for travelling by public transport, shopping around, walk-about or to attending an appointment
  • Assisting client with feeding / dressing and or, using his/her mobility devices as necessary
  • Helping client carrying groceries, and any other personal items
  • Adheres to Malika Home Services Companion Worker Practice Standards.

Position Title: Personal Support Worker / Health Care Aide

Background / Qualifications

Current PSW Certificate, HSW working towards PSW Certificate or comparable, e.g. RPN

 Current Emergency First Aid and CPR level C

 Demonstrated problem solving, ability to assess situations, set priorities and decision making skills

 Demonstrated willingness and ability to be adaptable, build relationships, focus on consumers needs and communicate effectively at all levels of the Agency and community

 Excellent interpersonal, communications and time management skills

 Valid Ontario driver’s license

Key responsibilities

  • Provides care to clients including cognitive, social and emotional support
  • Performs basic nursing care procedures in assisting clients with self administration of medication and their prescribed therapies in the self administration of oxygen, colostomy bag changes and emptying urinary catheter bag.
  • Supports clients optimal level of functioning in their Activities of Daily Living while respecting their rights and preferences
  • Observes, reports and documents changes in clients; physical and emotional condition in a timely manner that ensures clients; immediate needs are met
  • Follows established routine care practices and safety precautions
  • Adheres to Infection Control practices as outlined in the Malika Home Services Standards of Basic Nursing Care
  • Reports and documents any accidents / injuries that occur in the workplace, as outlined in Malika Home Services Health & Safety policies  

Housekeeper

Position Title: Housekeeper                                                         

Background / Qualifications

  • Physically able to independently use household cleaning equipments and lifts up to 40 pounds

Key responsibilities

  • Performs daily housekeeping general cleaning as identified by the client’s contract agreement.

-          Vacuuming all carpet areas, removing spots & stains from the carpet

-          Dusting all furniture & cleaning tops of windows, door frames and wall hangings

-          Cleaning bath tubs and washrooms features & kitchen counters

-          Mopping all non-carpet floor areas

-          Washing pots & pans and related kitchenware accessories

-          Doing the laundry as directed, and ironing / folding dried clothing & linen

-          Picking up and disposing garbage and soiled articles

  • Performs periodic deep cleaning as identified by the client’s contract agreement

-          Operating floor polishing machine and steam cleaning equipment to strip, scrub spray buff and refinish all non carpet floor surfaces

-          Operating carpet cleaning machine to shampoo, remove stains & spots on all carpet floor areas

-          Removing and hanging drapes and curtains

-          Washing exterior window & door surfaces

-          Washing walls, ceiling lights fixtures, vents

  • Adheres to Malika Home Services established Housekeeping Standards
  • Adheres to Malika Home Services established Health & Safety Standards
